  1. I am an incoming student, how do I apply for housing?

    Once you are admitted and confirmed as a student by the University and have an active e-mail address, you are considered eligible to apply for housing.

    To apply, go to inside.nd.edu, then click the Student Life tab at the top of the screen.  Within the Student Life tab, locate the HOUSING box and you will be directed to log into HOME UNDER THE DOME. There, you will find links for undergraduate and graduate housing.  Select your appropriate application.

  2. Who is housed in this apartment complex?

    University Village and Cripe Street Apartments house married couples with no children, and families with children.

  3. What are the rates charged for the apartments? Is there a deposit?

    Rates and deposit information may be found on the Student Accounts website. http://studentaccounts.nd.edu/rates/housing/

  4. Is there a waiting list?

    Typically there is a short waiting list. Once you apply for housing you are automatically placed on the waiting list and will be contacted if an apartment becomes available.

  5. What types of apartments are available?

    One-bedroom apartments on Cripe Street are available to married full-time students without children. Preference is given to those students whose spouse is residing in the apartment.

    The two-bedroom apartments in University Village are available only to single/married, full-time students who have their spouses and/or children living with them with proof of marriage and/or financial dependency. Couples expecting their first child are permitted to reside in University Village for up to one academic year pending proof of pregnancy. A limited number of four bedroom apartments are available to families with three children or more.

  6. What types of furnishings are provided in each apartment?

    The apartments are furnished with an air-conditioner; ceiling lights in the bathroom, kitchen, living area and hallway; and kitchen appliances. Washing machines and dryers are furnished in the University Village apartments, but not the Cripe Street apartments.

  7. What appliances are in the kitchen?

    Each apartment has a full-size refrigerator, stove, exhaust hood, and garbage disposal. Microwaves, utensils and small appliances are not provided.

  8. Are window coverings provided?

    At the University Village apartments you are responsible for installing your own window coverings. At the Cripe Street apartments there are window coverings.

  9. Are the apartments carpeted?

    Cripe Street Apartments are entirely carpeted except for the bathroom which has a tile floor. Village apartment have carpeting in the living room and bedroom areas. The kitchen, bathroom, and hallway have tile floors.

  10. Do you allow waterbeds?

    No; waterbeds are prohibited at both University Village and Cripe Street apartments.

  11. What types of things should we bring with us?

    Furniture, personal care items, linens and blankets, and extra storage for books and personal items.

  12. May we bring our pet?

    Animals of any kind are prohibited in University owned housing facilities at all times. This policy extends to guests who may also wish to bring pets. The only exception is non-carnivorous freshwater fish in an aquarium (up to 30 gallons).

  13. Is a telephone included in the apartment?

    Yes. A telephone, complete with campus and local phone service is included in the housing rates.

  14. What about long-distance service?

    Many students opt to purchase long-distance calling cards or VOIP service with a computer. In addition, long-distance service may be arranged by contacting the Office of Telecommunications at (574)634-4150 or by visiting their website. Cable subscriptions can be bought. High speed internet is included with rent.

  15. Can we get insurance to cover the loss of personal property?

  16. Do we need a car?

    Because the apartments are located on the edge of campus, you may not need a car to drive to classes. However, you may want to have a car for various off campus needs.

  17. Is parking available?

    Yes, parking decals are required for residents and may be obtained free of charge from Notre Dame Security Police (NDSP). Visit their website at http://www.nd.edu/~ndspd for more information.

    The decal only enables you to park in an assigned space at the apartment complex. Additional cars should be parked in non-assigned spaces in the parking lots. There is no storage parking available for trailers, recreational vehicles, unregistered vehicles, or non-functional vehicles.

  18. Can I bring my bicycle?

    Many students find bicycles useful for navigating the campus. Bicycle racks are provided outside of most buildings and students are encouraged to use the racks to lock up their bikes when not in use. Visit the NDSP website for more information on how to register your bicycle.

  19. Is there bicycle storage during the winter?

    Visit the NDSP website for more information on how to store your bicycle. There is also a limited storage area for bicycles at the Village.

  20. What are other forms of transportation?

    There are local cab services, a free shuttle service between Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College, and free public transportation (Transpo). Transpo has pick-up spots around campus; for bus route information and shuttle schedules you may visit the information desk at LaFortune Center.

  21. How convenient is shopping?

    One shopping complex is located approximately 2 miles away. Other, larger shopping areas are located approximately five miles away; it is accessible by car or via public transportation.

  22. What is my mailing address?

    You can determine your mailing address by reviewing the appropriate way to address your mail.

  24. Why is the one bedroom Cripe Street apartment more expensive than the two bedroom University Village apartment?

    Gas is included in the price of rent in the Cripe Street apartments.  Heat, hot water and the oven/stove are gas appliances.  Residents at both University Village and Cripe Street pay their own electric bills.  Heat, hot water and all appliances at University Village are electric.
